According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the finalized new rules will require manufacturers to produce and sell energy-saving lamps and LED lights, and require retail channels such as stores to stop selling incandescent lamps from July 2023 and switch to energy-saving lamps such as LEDs. If fully implemented in the U.S. in 2023, consumers should save nearly $3 billion a year in electricity consumption and reduce carbon emissions by 222 million metric tons over the next 30 years, equivalent to the annual carbon emissions of 28 million homes.
