Rexolite® is a thermoset, rigid, translucent plastic produced by the cross linking of polystyrene and divinylbenzene. This light weight, environmentally friendly, material is most known for its outstanding dielectric properties and its optical clarity that matches acrylic. Rexolite® also offers the ability to withstand high voltages, resistance to radiation, dimensional stability, negligible outgassing, less than .05% water absorption, resistance to chemicals with the exception of aromatic and hydrocarbons, and is easy to machine. Rexolite® is available in an unfilled grade (Rexolite® 1422), a glass filled grade (Rexolite® 2200), and a copper-clad grade (Rexolite® copper-clad).
The main difference between Rexolite® 2200 and the basic Rexolite® 1422 is that the glass reinforcement in Rexolite® 2200 provides greater rigidity, stability, and tensile strength.
Both Rexolite® 2200 and 1422 can be copper clad for use in electronic circuits.
Rexolite® is available in rod and sheet.
- Optically clear with light yellow tint
- Stable electrical properties through Giga-hertz frequencies
- Dimensionally stable
- Excellent sound transmission properties
- Light weight - approximately 15% lighter than acrylic
- Conforms to military specification LP-516A type E2
Rexolite® is typically used in:
- Microwave components
- High frequency circuit substrates
- Lenses in acoustic, optical, and radio frequency applications
