The tip-shaped insert is a PCD insert welded to a corner of a hard alloy substrate. The tip-shaped insert is either a single cutting edge or a double cutting edge. Most of the PCD inserts used today are sharp-pointed. Both full-section and point-shaped inserts are manufactured to industry standard sizes. Like integral inserts, they can be installed in standard toolholder insert slots and milling cutter slots.
