So that 5050 SMD LED case can packaged in 3 chips inside. For some project, just one single chip might cannot reach that requirement. In order to increase the output and radiation on one LED, we will package this with 3 same LED chip into 5050 SMD LED to reach stronger radiation or brightness. There have kinds of LED chip can be packaged in one 5050 SMD LED, which can be 3 different chip or 3 same chip. It's totally up to your requirement.
