Zirconia is a new type of structural ceramic developed in the 1970s. It has excellent mechanical properties and is widely used. The pure phase change of pure zirconia from high temperature cooling to room temperature will occur as follows: cubic phase (c) to tetragonal phase (t) to monoclinic phase (m), where t to m phase transition occurs around 1150 ° C, and With a volume expansion of about 5%. If the t to m phase transition point of ZrO2 is stabilized to room temperature, it will induce a t-to-m phase change due to stress during loading, and a large amount of fracture energy will be absorbed due to the volume effect caused by the phase change, so that the material exhibits an abnormally high The fracture toughness, phase transformation toughening, high toughness and high wear resistance. Common ZrO2 stabilizers are rare earth or alkaline earth oxides, and only oxides whose ionic radius differs from Zr4+ radius by no more than 40% can be used as stabilizers for zirconia. The current stabilization mechanism is not well understood. Different amounts of stabilizer can be added to obtain zirconia ceramics with different phase compositions. If some t-ZrO2 is metastable to room temperature, partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ for short) is obtained; if t-ZrO2 is all metastable to room temperature, A polycrystal containing only tetragonal zirconia (abbreviated as TZP); if c-ZrO2 is metastable to room temperature, a c-ZrO2 single-phase material, that is, fully stabilized zirconia (referred to as FSZ) is obtained. Both PSZ and TZP contain a phase-changeable tetragonal phase, which is a commonly used phase-change toughened ceramic.
