Certifications Packing & Delivery FAQ Q1: DO you supply waterproof led strip lights?

Yes we do. All of our LED strip lights are available in four versions. When placing your order, you can choose from:

1. a standard non waterproof type,

2. an IP65 coated type,

3. an IP67 waterproof type.

4. an IP68 waterproof type.

The waterproof options allow you to fit your LED strips in places where resistance to water is required (for example, the kitchen, bathrooms etc).

They can also be fitted externally, making them ideal for signage.

Our IP65 LED strips are wrapped in specialized heat shrink coating, which has May advantages over traditional resin coverings. It does not discolor over time, cold doesn’t make it become brittle, and it’s very easy to cut and solder.

For our IP68 LED strip lights, we use the same heat shrink coating but we fully glue seal the ends as well. IP68 rating means your strip lights are fully waterproof, but please be aware they should not be fitted in any location where they will be permanently submerged.

Q2: What light colors can RGB / RGBW LED strips produce?

The answer to this question depends on the type of LED controller that you are using.

In general terms, your RGB strip has the ability to produce any color by simply mixing the three primary colors – red, green and blue.

RGBW LED strips offer even great flexibility, with the option to also add dedicated white light to the mix; this opens up an even bigger palette of color tints and pastel shades. If you want to set your color-changing LEDs to produce white light, you can do this with either RGB or RGBW strip lights.

RGBW LEDs are manufactured with this requirement in mind, so they offer the best and easiest solution: each RGBW LED has a fourth color chip (choose either warm white or pure white), which you can set to produce white light without the need to do any color mixing. RGB LED strip lights can produce a perfect pure white by mixing their three colors equally. If you prefer warmer white shades, though, you’ll probably find RGBW LED strips to be a better alternative.

Q3: How do I position and attach my LED strip lights?

All of our LED strips are supplied with 3M self adhesive tape on the back. Simply clean the wall or other surface where your LEDs are to be fitted, then peel and stick your color changing LED strips into place.

Our LED strip lights are all extremely flexible – making them ideal for installation in a wide variety of projects and applications. And waterproof strips are just as flexible, because they are protected with very thin heatshrink coating.

NB: When pushing down on your RGB LED tape, be careful to press on the PCB rather than the resistors or LEDs.

Q4: Must I order my RGB / RGBW LED strips pre-cut, or can I cut them myself?

Yes, you can cut your RGBW and RGB LED strips yourself.

Using normal scissors, simply cut along any of the designated cut-points (they’re typically marked with a small scissor icon along the cutting line).

Please make sure your RGBW or RGB strip is powered off before cutting!!!

Q5: How far away can I have the transformer from the LED tape?

The transformer can be as far away as you require from the start of the LED tape as long as you use the correct thickness cable. For a distance of up to 10m you should use at least 1mm cable. For a distance of up to 15m you should use at least 1.5mm cable. For a distance of up to 20m you should use a cable of at least 2mm thick. For a distance of up to 25m you should use a cable of least 2.5mm thick.

For single color LED tape you would use 2 core cables and for RGB LED tape you would use 4 core cables.

Q6:Do I have to clean the surface before sticking the LED tape down?

Yes you do. Give the surface a good clean first before attempting to stick the LED Tape down. Make sure all dirt is removed and you use a good cleaner and then once dry you can stick the LED tape down. You can also use a small amount of hot glue at the ends of the LED tape if you prefer for extra support.

Q7:Can I bend the LED tape round a 90 degree corner?Yes you can. Any LED tape that has 60 LED’s per meter or less you can actually loop up the LED tape and fold it back on itself to bend around a 90 degree corner. We would however recommend that Ourleds pre solders a linking cable instead of this as it is more reliable and there is less likely the chance of damaging the LED tape.

Q8:What is the difference between a driver and a transformer?

Some people use the word driver and others use the word transformer. At QAS LED they are both exactly the same thing. They are a product that transforms mains AC110v/220v down to either 12v or 24v to run the LED tape. People often use the word driver as it drives (powers) to the LED tape.

Q9:Can I work out myself how many metres of LED tape I can run off each transformer?

Yes. Working out how many metres of LED tape you can run off a transformer is actually quite simple. The simple equation to work this out is to take the wattage of the transformer and divide it by the wattage of the LED tape per metre; this will give you the total amount of metres that you can run off that transformer.

E.G. A 100w tra nsformer divided by 4.8w per metre is the calculation 100/4.8 = 20.8m, this means you can run up to a maximum of 20.8m of LED tape off this transformer.

We would always a dvise to leave a small amount of headroom for the transformer of say around 5%. This means running a little less amount of LED tape from up to the maximum you are allowed to use.

Q10:How do I create custom lengths? Can I cut the tape?

Creating custom lengths is easy and we can do it for you, if you provide the lengths you need we can cut and solder them to length. If however you want to do this yourself you simply measure the length you need and cut at the nearest cut point on the tape.

Q11:Can I dim the LED tape?

Yes you can. There are various different ways in which you can but all of our LED tapes can be dimmed one way or another; from using a simple standard household rotary dimmer (triac dimming) to 0-10v,DMX dimming and more.
