I believe that they are brighter than 40 watt equivalent, each one produces a nice warm white   - I'd call it "very warm" without being yellow. The bulbs look great when not turned on as well and the glass has a slight tint to   it.   I put these bulbs into a custom chandelier, using an outdoor light string..
